Born in Vushtrri, Kosova, Nesim Maxhuni is a professional Prishtina-based percussionist. His vast experience and playing style has established him as one of the most innovative drummers in Europe, especially in genres such as jazz, hip-hop and neo soul.
Nesim accomplished his academic studies at the Music Academy of Skopje followed by numerous workshops in prestigious academies, including the Fontys Rockacademie in Holland.
Nesim’s playing can be enjoyed in more than 40 original albums of various musical styles such as jazz, funk, rock and drum ‘n’ bass. Nesim has had a vital role as drummer and arranger in the albums of two of the most eminent Prishtina-based singer- songwriters, Genc Salihu’s Kangë e Venë and Shpat Deda’s Molla e Parë. Furthermore, Nesim released his own original jazz and neo-soul albums: Treni, Syndrome and Homecoming, featuring world-class musicians with whom he also plays in numerous festivals in Europe and the US – Richard Bona, Edie Marshall, Tom Kennedy, Bob Albanese, John Wolf Brennan, Peter Gossweiler, Junior Tshaka, Eric Wells, Robert Jukic, Armend Xhaferi, Ilir Bajri, Sarp Maden, Cagri Sertel, Jure Pukl, Marko Crncec, Art Lokaj, and Prishtina Big Band among others – including the prestigious events such as Exit Festival in Serbia and Rock For Peace in Germany, and regular appearances in regional Jazz Festivals. Nesim has performed for MTV Exit with the band Kthjellu as part of an anti-trafficking campaign endorsed by Radiohead and Angelina Jolie. Nesim remains actively involved in the regional music scene as a professional jazz drummer, composer and teacher. He is a full time member of the Kosova Big Band, as well as a full time teacher at the Mitrovica Rock School, while privately tutoring a group of young and talented drummers.
